A top-mount sink, also known as an overhead sink, is an installation method in which the rim of the sink is located above the countertop, typically placed directly into a pre-cut countertop opening. A flush-mount sink, on the other hand, is recessed into the countertop, with the rim completely hidden beneath the countertop, leaving only the interior of the sink visible.

A flushmount sink is installed by embedding the sink into the kitchen countertop. The upper edge of this sink is flush or slightly lower than the countertop surface. A top-mounted kitchen sink places the edge of the sink above the countertop, and the upper edge of the sink is usually higher than the countertop, forming a clear boundary with the countertop.

The installation methods of undermount sinks and flushmount sinks are quite different. The installation requirements of undermount sinks are higher, because the sink needs to be embedded under the countertop, the countertop needs to be professionally cut, and special attention needs to be paid to the support and sealing of the sink during installation.

Compared with undermount sinks, flushmount sinks are much simpler to install. The sink only needs to be placed on the countertop and fixed with the edge. This makes flushmount sinks more suitable for those who do their own renovations or have no experience.
